CANOPY is operated by a partnership with 7 years combined greenroof experience, which includes working together to design and install approximately 15,000 sqft of greenroofs since early 2007. Projects have comprised small and large residential and commercial, including the DC government.
CANOPY combines in-depth knowledge of greenroof principles along with hands-on installation experience.
Sarah Murphy
Director of Consulting, Horticulturist
Sarah comes from a family of gardeners. She received a BS in Horticulture from Virginia Tech, and spent a year at the University of Sheffield learning about urban ecology, with a particular interest in greenroofs. For the last 3 years Sarah has held a variety of positions in the greenroof industry, ranging from research to design and installation. She also enjoys advocating for greenroofs through speaking engagements, which have included:

Criston Mize
Director of Operations, Residential Designer
Criston has a formal design education and believes in a hands-on approach. His work has always revolved around design/build. Criston’s experience comes in a variety of fields including: clothing design, furniture design and construction, residential and athletic landscaping, and home remodeling. Returning from design work in Europe in 2004, Criston began to focus his energy and education on sustainable home design and construction, specifically greenroofs. He began design/building greenroofs in 2007. Criston’s aim is to integrate the intelligence of green methods with design to build solutions that are conscious of aesthetics and the environment.
