Modular Systems vs. Built-up Systems
Greenroof systems are either "built-up" or "modular," - with a large variety of types within each category.
With a built-up greenroof system, all layers are installed individually to create a tailor made, seamless garden. This approach costs less initially but requires some patience for the plants to establish.
A modular system incorporates all the greenroof layers, including growth medium and plants, into a tray, or module. A module is pre-grown to offer instant visual impact the same day it is installed. To install, modules are placed on the roof in a pattern connecting to other modules.
